Today, I went and checked out a car that has seen its last cruise! It is a 68 Coronet that looks like the Duke boys used it for training! The fenders and grille/Frt bumper are TOAST. The car is kinda banana shaped which is appropriate because it is BRIGHT yellow! The interior is black with a set of 70 B-Body bucket seats.

You may be asking,  WHAT ON EARTH would make somebody give that car a second glance?? Hows about a 69 HP 440 with VERY low miles that survived a drunk's attempt at stunt driving INTACT And UNHURT! The tranny is unhurt as well, it also has an 8-3/4 rear axle but no suregrip. It has some aftermarket aluminum wheels that are alright but don't appeal to me, but he was nice enough to put new tires on before he wrecked the car!

The car is a 2dr sedan and has a LOT of nice stuff on it, and YES I will be taking what I want and selling off the rest. It was basically a stripper NO FRILLS 68 /6 Coronet, NO P/S, NO A/C and NO P/B. IT did get a correct K-member put in but that was it.

My 66 is already making plans to kill Chevys!!!!!!!!!!   :icon_smile_big: :METAL: :drive: :boogie:

What is the VIN # on the 69 HP 440 ?

Couldn't tell you, Just looked at casting number and the pad on the front of the block. I knew it wasn't the original engine so that part didn't concern me.

The engine will be sitting on the ground soon enough anyway.

69 rt

Great find, just so happens a guy wanted me to look at his 68Charger RT, turned out to be a 68 Coronet RT, I couldn't get under the hood because of all the other stuff sitting around and on the car. I asked what engine was in it and he said he thought it was a 428 or 426. I told him I would be back this spring and take a look, could it possibly be a 426? I was able to get the drivers door open and it has Buckets and console with an automatic.

mikepmcs

I wouldn't be waiting til spring, that's for sure.

good luck, good finds. wish i could get that lucky.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

A quick peek at the VIN# through the windshield would answer that...well, at least as to whether or not it was an original 426 car.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

go back now with cash in hand, and a wreaker ready to pull it! I missed out on a 71 R/T 440  4speed for for $800 by waiting! Don't ever wait! better yet tell me where it is and I will do my best to take care of it! But truthfuly, Good luck don't wait!

mikepmcs

Dang, ain't that an AMEN right there.  In 1985 there was a 70 R/T for I think 2800.00 at a dealer in bellevue nebraska.  Silver and it was hot.  I never saw the vin or would think to look, and didn't know any different back then, but crap.  Well , i'll never forgive my dad for that one, he said I was nutso wanting to pay that kind of money.   I'll never forget that car, it haunts me in my dreams!!!!   :flame: :flame: :flame:

I'll be damned if I would leave a possible Hemi car sitting like that till spring, all it takes is ONE guy who knows what he is looking at.  A Buddy just happened to tell me about this car. It is going to yeild a BUNCH of stuff for my 66, not the least of which is the drivetrain!

I know that a few of you guys want me to look at the VIN on the block, but I have to be honest, I bough this car JUST TO get the sweet 440 out of it FOR my 66 Charger. The engine has REALLY good compression and all the plugs are nice and tan colored, so the car runs sweet, no oil anywhere on the outside and the inside is VERY VERY clean.

If somebody wanted this motor it would be EXTREMELY hard to sell it. I NEED the stuff for my 66. Plain and simple. Not sure what would be the point in going through all this and then letting what I actually need go.  My main interest is in getting my 66 Charger back on the road.

mikepmcs

sorry we hijacked, i guess we were talking to 69RT.

my bad, great find!!!!

Why not post a vin if you find one...then if someone wants it, you can sell it to them or trade for a 440 in similar (or better) condition, this way you have done your good deed for the day and did not even have to lose any money doing it... ;D ;D
RECHRGED

pettyfan43

This is a picture of the car that will feed my 66!

pettyfan43

This is WHY this car is feeding my 66, the 69 440 magnum. It is very clean inside and out and is apparently low miles on a recent rebuild, looks like a great driveline for my 66.

GOTTA lone those YELLOW hoses and details! You can't hide class!!!!!!!!!!!

The car is TOAST, the framerails are twisted pretty bad, the doors hang pretty badly when opened. The doors were driven iinto the quarters pretty bad, the inner fenders are bent and buckled. EVen the radiator support is layed forward about 4-5 inches!

The guy's head ate the windshield. He came to a T intersection, was supposed to go left or right, well due to the booze, he passed out and went straight. PPOUNDED a ditch across the road. He was really lucky he didn't kill himself or somebody else.

The car DOES look to have  a good set of core 70 B-body bucket seats and the rear seat core is nice.

Mean 318

I think I am going to cry! Poor Coronet! P.S. could you toss up a few more pics of it? :-\

pettyfan43

Let me resize some of the pictures, they are REALLY big and I didn't realize they were THAT big until I opened them just now.

Here is a link to an album with several pictures
