Okay before you start up your flame throwers I want to state emphatically that I am not going to rebody any car.

I have the title to 2 chargers one has been stripped and scrapped the other one in my garage as a shell. I have the dash to BOTH cars one is trashed and one is in good shape. I want to use the good dash in my car. I also want to swap the VIN tags from the bad one to the good one when I get ready to install it when I get to that portion of my restore.

I recall a site that sells VIN tag rivets but I don't know who it was

does anyone know where I can get VIN tag rivits??

Dayumm, $25 for TWO stinkin' rivets is just plain disgusting! :icon_smile_angry:
Oh, plus shipping too! :rotz:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

If I took my vin tag off (which I might to paint the dash frame) I would just use regular rivets to reattach it.  No way i'd pay $25 for 2 of those things...  But then again im not concerned with resale value either because it wont be for sale.

Should you ever get pulled over.......  Law enforcement would spot a regular rivet in a heartbeat.......... $25 might be well spent..... just a thought.

Charger1973

Maybe...  I think ill just leave mine intact for now  ;)

Jerome Verbit sells them or did after NOS Find. LEON.

Heck, my '58 vette's vin tag is held on with phillips screws. Yes, that's original and DMV tried to give me crap about it until I showed them old pictures of unrestored cars.

you can call the highway patrol to come out and they'll do it for like 15....well, atleast here in kansas
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

They should at least give you three so you have one for dropsies.

I saw them another place as well, I think someone is makeing them.

I pulled my plate off to do the dash and used regular rivets before I learned of the special ones...I'll swap 'em out on the next rebuild. Not worried, doors, trunk lip and radiator all match if someone presses the issue.

Mr_fixit

If you're only replacing the dash pad, you don't need to mess with the vin. What year? and why would you want to change the frame?  Unless it's a rebody.

Or, unless the previous owner hacked the crap out of it first to install stereo equipment, and then for easier access to salvage anything he thought he might be able to sell. That was the case with my car.

Or like my car which had A/C and now it doesnt.  I either need to replace my dash frame with one from a non-A/C car or weld up the hole for the vent.

Okay first thanks for all the responses guys.

Second it's a 1973 SE the second car is a 73 SE if I was doing a rebody why would I do it on a 73 it's not like these cars are pulling in millions from BJ or getting bid to 6 figures on Ebay.

They are both 318 cars? And the dash that I want to use is
1. From a non-AC car and that's they way I am keeping it
2. Is the right color, black, where the other one is blue and I don't want to spend time painting it and doing all the other stuff to get the dash up to that same shape as the good one I want to use
3. In MUCH better shape than the old

I just want the rivets it is easier than rebuilding a entire dash and swapping everything from one to the other

I had to have a police officer inspect my VIN after the titled showed a mistake, Something like a C on title as a O or O as a D or something like that. had corrected on new Title. Officers had to inspect to verify Legite. This officers had no clue or concern of the rivits or other VIN locations or #'s & was surprised i knew much more on the subject then he did as he knew nothing. LEON.
