I guess this will finally obsolete the 23" hoops?

I can't imagine that the flex points on each spoke would last through too many years/months of flexing, before they break free.
One example is a dog-bone motor mount on some front wheel drive cars...the attaching points (rubber to metal) is often thin fingers of rubber. Those break quickly, especially if hammered hard.

Shakey

Imagine the comfy ride when some dried mud gets caked on the inside.   :rotz:

i wonder what happens when the get packed full of snow in the winter.  you would have to pick them clean with a giant toothpick before driving away.....  D'oh!

I hadn't thought of the mud & snow angles. That's it, the tires are officially a bad idea.

I don't see how those can hold any air pressure? :icon_smile_cool:

That is dog ugly. I wonder how it would be as far as for security vechiles. They have been making tires that are " bullet proof" for a while. This could be the next step forward.

Actually, I'm sure the company's not that stupid - they'll probably be 'sealed' with a soft sidewall to prevent things from getting in the middle and make them look somewhat normal, but just have them run at atmospheric pressure.

bandit67

Bet that would be one funky ride if them recap treads blew off...............J

I think its a good idea for compact/mid size style cars. They are paving roads already using old tire rubber also in the lower 48 states. I heard of a tire being developed a while back from BF Goodrich. Looks like the compition is ahead of them now. Plus, look how much Armoral you'll save when wiping down the tires! Its just another way to save money for many things, gas mileage, weight restriction, roads, possibly better handling, ride/compfort. They might even last/wear longer than a normal tire as well.

Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

Dang, and I just bought a new bag of valve stems and a new tire pressure gauge.........is the ride gonna be affected by them new tire weights crimped on them treads..........I was just starting to like SOME white walls again............

Silver R/T

Cons:
ugly,
not winter friendly

pros
never check air pressure again.
doesn't go flat
softer ride than regular tire???
Lighter design...less rotational weight

If I did, I don't remember it...although, I can't remember what I had for dinner last night either. :shruggy: Hell, if it weren't for the big groove I've worn in the road, I wouldn't remember how to get to work in the mornings!  :icon_smile_big:

Those pics have been around for years. I actually spoke to somepone at a Michelin factory and asked about those. They are only developmental tires. More of a never go flat type that would have a traditional side wall. The sidwall was left off for evalution and testing purposes. As stated, there would be a lot of balancing issues and other problems with a open design.
