Holy cow that's my hometown. I just got back from P.B.this evening from a holiday visit with the family. Sorry I don't think I can be of much use to you though since I now live in Atlanta.

I did see a building off of highway 60 today between Poplar Bluff and Dexter. It was SEMO Musclecars (or something like that).

My Dads from there, left in 52 for the US Navy and stayed in Cal. I've always thought of it as a nice town (most of Missoura and Arkansas is though) Yes, its pronounced with an "a" at the end (My dad taught me that)

I've got a ton of relatives that still live close to the bootheel, and I make it through The Bluff every so often.  My mom was from Naylor, and my Father-In-Law grew up outside of Pollard, AR.  An uncle of mine was the head HS Basketball coach at Malden for a couple of decades too.  Another Uncle's family owned the Dodge dealership in West Plains (not too far from the area).

My mom's hometown of Naylor is +/- 30 miles to the SSW of The Bluff, seemingly in the middle of cotton and flooded rice fields.  Mosquito City.

From my childhood recollections, there are two sizes of mosquitos there:

Those small enough to go through the screen door,

and those big enough to open it...  [/rimshot]
