Does anyone make repro hood inserts for R/T's and Superbees ?

G'day guys,

just wondering if it's possible to get repro hood inserts - particularly for 71 Chargers ?
What I mean is the louvered type that was used on R/T's, and if so, are these easily interchangeable with the standard Superbee insert ?
You'd think they'd be easy to make.

I'll check out their site in a moment. I was just looking at some of the pics of Gen 3 cars in another thread - I really love that louvered hood - looks great.

no problem pete glad to help let me know what you think they even do a ramcharger hood in fiberglass and a dual rear cut out valance (but i dont know if its listed) some guys wont touch fiberglass but for a part like a insert i think it would be fine.   mike.

Their prices seem fairly reasonable - have you ever tried them for anything ?
I just sent them an email. Surely it's have to be easier buying a repro than looking for a genuine.

Hi pete i havent tried anything from those guys i started a thread about fiberglass parts and the responses (positive and negative) were split pretty even. steel bulge hoods are hard to come by but fiberglass parts can ned some prep work. does this mean your thinking about a rt insert for you bee? i have seen the od rt insert on a superbee and vice versa i like both inserts, and the ramcharger what id like to see would be a 71 bulge hood "insert filler panel" that bolts on to fill the hole and in the insert is the ramcharger trap door. So, you could make you regular 71 hood and turn it into a ramcharger this could of course come out if you wanted to change back to your normal insert if serious about keeping the insert ramcharger panel, you could seal it up on the outside paint over it and nobody would know any better (of course you would know when you opened the hood that it wasnt the real deal. Have you seen the asking price for ramcharger hoods lately? this idea is for guys like me who cant afford a real ramcharger hood and, you wouldnt be cutting up a hood to do this but will anyone make it?

I'm thinking about getting one of the louvered R/T style inserts for my Bee. If they slot in the same, I'dlike the choice of putting it in - I really like the look of them.

I can understand the "purists"not being interested in fibre glass, but for someone like me I'd be more than happy to paint it up and use it on my bulge hood. I'm certainly going to keep their link handy. Even my wifelikes the look of the R/T insert.

If you have a steel bulge hood, sell or keep it and get a glass hood to cut.You might regret it later.

Your bee insert is one piece, but the rt is 2 pieces (the base plate, and the insert are 2 different pieces) I only just though of it now (sorry you havent ordered one yet have you?) I agree with you though at the end of the day its your car to do what you please with so i opoligise for my commets re: your possible conversion  to lpg my logic on that one is gas is not super crazy $ yet but i dont want to get off the topic. let me know if you decide to get one of those fiberglass inserts mike.

no - haven't ordered one yet. Got other things I'm spending money on at the moment, but I am keeping it in the back of my mind, because I'd like to eventually get one.

No dramas on the LPG issue. There's so many people getting conversions down here that I still haven't got all the components for mine anyway. I am going ahead with it though - nothing that can't be reversed, mind you I don't plan on selling the Bee.........I've wanted a 71 Charger for as long as I can remember and I'm VERY happy with the one I picked up.

pete, (getting more and more off the subject here but nevermind ) re: the lpg go or it and let us all know how it works out i have heard you can lose some h.p with conversions like this (but i doubt you will notice it with a motor like a 383) and like you said it can be reversed and you should be happy with your bee its awesome!

well, they started installing my L.P.G.

Because of the mad rush for installations down here they're doing it a bit at a time as components become available. They put the gas cylinder in the trunk the other day. I'm getting the electricals and switches etc done this week.
