are there any differences between 71 & 72 wiring? if so what are they?

thanks Ryan Olson
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

I'm going through this now.Looks like my 71 charger parts car under the hood harness was different then my 72 charger >:(.I'm using the good wires from the 71 and one by one replacing my cut/burnt wires for the 72 and it's working out good  :yesnod:.You could also get lucky and just have to switch a couple of wires around.
The difference would be options. It could be from points to electronic,2 speed wiper motor to a 3 speed motor. The 71 has a 2 prong ballast and 72 has a 4 prong.A/c would be another option.
Dash harnesses will be rallye gauges or standard ,if you have a tach or not.I haven't gotten to the dash yet but I think the light switch is different one's bigger then the other not %100 on that.I'm learning as I go along. If you check out a few of my posts here and read it you'll see a lot of good info from guy's here who know there s*!% :2thumbs:.

about front  lightning harness:
different plug at parking lenses ends. 71 uses same kind of electronic dist plug, black rubber L shaped with male and female terminals. 72 and 73 uses the tipical spade terminals on a T plastic plug.

Engine Harness:
Just differences between them if they are electronic or breaker points ignition. rest are the same. Also if they are cali or not or if they have speed control or not and soem other stuff, meeting with cali emission regulations

Tranny: they are te same.

wiper:
they are teh same for two speeds on any 71-74 asembly. 3 speeds or variable have harness attached to motor, but plugs and wires colors meets with bulkhead and underdash harnesses on any assembly.

Lots of more details along the years:
71 wiper switch back prongs plate is different from 72 and laters, so plug is different, HOWEVER wiring itself is the same. you can use same harness for a while you match plastic plugs with switch.

72 and 73 use seatbelts warning buzzers and lights, both controled by switches on retractors, 71 seatbelt light is time delay flasher controled. 74 interlock system seatbelts switch are on female buckles. Of course wiring is not interchangleable between 74 and earliers WITHOUT MODS. 73 and 72 are perfectly interchangeable with 71, but to make works the seatbelt warning signals you would need to find 72/73 retractors.

and go on, go on bout those are the bigger differences

allways you will need anyway and anytime be sure engine bay harnesses match wires with underdash harness on bulkhead or will need to turn around
