I have a problem that I would like to get some help with if I could? I just got my 68 RT Charger with the 440 in it back on the road and yesterday was the first time that I drove it I drove it from the line up shop home which is about two miles anyway in that two miles it built crankcase pressure up in the crankcase and started overflowing oil out of the dipstick tube. As far as I know I have ventilated the engine properly and it should be breathing so it should not build pressure so I'm stumped and would like some of your expertise and help if you could help me I would appreciate all input. First I will tell you that I have Mopar Direct Connection valve covers on the vehicle it has a cap to add oil on each valve cover and I have added a pcv valve in one of the valve covers that attaches to the rear of the carburetor everyone tells me that I do not need too run a vent off of each valve cover like it had from the factory but now I'm not sure? When the car came from the factory and was new it had a hose running out of the fill spout to the air cleaner and a hose running out of the pcv valve in the other cover into the carburetor. Any advice or suggestion as to what is creating my problem would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to getting all of your input soon. Thank Guys in advance. Gary

Gary,

That is incorrect.....you need a vent on the VC opposite to the PCV.  ;) Put a twist on breather in the oil fill hole.  :yesnod:

make sure the pcv hose isnt old and is collasping inside  not letting the pressure out, the hose may look good, but is it.....kim

As an example, on my 5.8 liter ford bronco, I blocked off the oil fill hole vent cap that went into the airlceaner, and soon after the valve cover gasket leaked out from pressure building up,  ugh, and oil pushed up out of the dipstick,  so, I had to put back on a cap that had a breather hose attachment that could be run to the aircleaner, I bought the chrome type one that allowed a 5/8 hose to attach, and also modified the cap to make it less restrictive inside, this was a little tricky, but worked,
the other side the pcv valve hose that ran from the pcv valve to the carb, this I took off and found was clogged some, and air would not blow it out, I used a 3500 psi power washer witha  zero degree tip, got it cleaned out totally, dried it, and put it back.
Couple people told me the pressure build up was from shot rings, but my truck burned no oil and or used any, and it turned out to be venting the valve covers.
Hope this helps any.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.
