correct color of carrier retaining nuts and studs?

Ok, in getting ready for my differential to be rebuilt, I would like to get the nuts and studs back to the correct factory color.  Should they be a black phosphate color or a zinc coating color?  These are the 10 nuts and studs that hold the carrier onto the rear axle housing for my 8 3/4" rear.  If it matters, the casing is a 489.

Also, should the pinion snubber bracket be semi flat black or natural steel color?  I am pretty sure the carrier housing should be natural cast iron color also.

Thanks,

Brian

The studs appear to be black phosphate, I'm pretty sure the nuts are natural steel finish (rust). The pinion snubber and housing are also natural finish (rust).

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I did this earlier this year Brian.

When I painted my housing black, the studs got covered also.  I painted the snubber black and the carrier got covered with Eastwood's Spray Gray.

The nuts were treated with the Eastwood's Metal Blackening Kit.

I used this article as a reference:

And this site has some great reference photos also.

And of course I got some great advice from this site.

the housing is most likely a low gloss black.
studs and nuts were phosphate
snubber maybe natural steel then dipped in cosmoline as they never seem to be to rusty and I don't think they were plated.
bolts to hold the snubber plate are also phosphate
chunk is natural
