denso starter clearence problem

Hey guys,

I have a denso starter..I had to take the copper posts addapter off the top of it..I could'nt get it to lay flat enough against the block to bolt it up to the lakewood bellhousing..I called denso they said you have to use that copper addapter or the starter will short out..I got the starter from mancini racing..they said thats bull..that that copper addapter is made to come off for those reasons i took it off...can i bolt right to the terminals of the starter?? any oppinions would be great!

Remove the extension and put your wires directly to the starter. I think the guy misspoke a little. The extension is a wire insulator, though it is not needed. Everyone removes them for use on a big block.. Some even have to grind on the starter a bit for clearance..  No biggie..

the starters have a extra rib cast in the side that faces the block.  It is just extra material that can be ground down in order for the starter to mate evenly.  I had to do this to the starter housing to get it to fit on my 440 in the RR.  I would rather grind on the starter than the block.

thank you guys thats a relief! it was a pain to get in..had to blow the bellhousing bolt hole out in the lakewood..I had to take a little metal of the starter ear..and grind down the top of the offset bracket so it would lay closer to the starter..
