727 trans question

Please forgive my ignorance, but I've got another question, I'm still learning all this mopar stuff.   On my 69 charger w/ floor shifted auto, where the linkage rod goes through the floorpan, theres supposed to be a bracket that I think bolts to the tailhousing of the trans for that rod to pivot in, is that correct?  My car has a cobbled up homemade bracket that bolts to rear trans mount because the tailhousing doesn't have any provisions to bolt a bracket to.  If I go looking for the right trans what do I look for?  I mean my trans is not very good anyway and needs rebuilt so I might as well get the right one and rebuild it right?      Also, my car is an R/T, originally was there  a difference  internally or externally to the 727 that would've been in it and what should I get to put in it for a trans.    Sorry I know there's lots of questions clumped together here, but like I said I've got alot to learn still.  Thanks for your help,  Dale

Any BB 727 with the necessary boss on the bottom of the tailhousing will work for you. They all look pretty much the same externally, only the stamped part number will reveal its origins.

Since most of them are well over thirty years old it's hard to pick one by sight, a trans that was originally weak inside might now be built to the max and an original  high performance unit might have been rebuilt with marginal parts; you just never know without tearing it apart.

That's why I would recommend getting whatever you can find and rebuild it according to your performance level (and budget).
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Yes there is a bracket. There is supposed to be 2 bosses to mount the bracket,u will have a truck tranny.u could change the tail housing.I have the bracket+tail housing. There was different internals according to engine size+application.  I have a#s trans to fit your car, although it would be right for your application, it would not be #s matching to your car. It is prossible to find your original trans+I may even have it, but the chance is slim.I could sell u everything or I could build it to your specifications.................oldkimmer      Kindersley,Saskatchewan. .Canada..................gOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CAR.

Howdy Oldkimmer!    I'd possibly be interested in that bracket and a trans, boy would be awesome if you had the #'s matching trans!  Pm me with more  info and prices,  Thanks, Dale

Oldkimmer is on the right track. Get a package deal. A&A trans has them, Manciniracing.com has them. If Oldkimmer can set you up then get everything at once, go for it.  Don't skimp in this area. If you trans doesn't have the right throttle input, you can burn it up or have loss of performance. Get everything at once.
If it ain't wide open; it ain't running.        Rule number one in motocross racing: Pin it; row the gear box; and wait until you hit something.     At work my motto is: If you need me, call someone else.
