HELP...I may have just stuffed my steering column.

Hi guys,

just finished removing my dash fascia and cleaning my guages in my 71 Charger.

Had to undo the steering column, and now it looks like the end of the column (the shaft) has come out of the point where it meets the box. On the end there are 2 little "steel blocks" which are either side of the shaft and they seem to insert into a point on the box. One of them actually fell off, and I don't know if I just hold the whoile lot and insert it back in or what ?

Never had one of these before, and I'm hoping she's a simple fix and it all just pushes back in. Is that the case ? ???

Thanks,

Peter

Yep... it all just pushes back in.  Here is a link to a TSB regarding the cover and a clamp that is made to keep it on.  It has a good pic if the parts and how the go together...

I put one of those spring clamps on one of my cars and it work perfectly!

Thanks heaps.

I've fixed it up thanks to that diagram.

Only problem I have now is that for some reason my headlights and brake lights don't work. I must have bumped a wire or something.

When the lights are turned on, the rears come on but the fronts won't work. This'll teach me to leave my faded speedo needle alone. Got to admit though......looks pretty damn good now it's painted.
