I am trying to find out what bank holds the mortgage on a house near me. I know it's in foreclosure and I have the owners names. I found their phone number, but, as I expected, it's dead. I tried county tax records with no luck. Anyone know how I can find out who holds the mortgage?? Please let me know..

Thank you........  :scope:

I did the same thing.  Until the foreclosure is completed, they can't sell anyway.  The only way to find the lein holder is to look in the records at the county clerks office.  It is public record and you are able to view.  It REALLY helps if they will help you find it.  You will need to know the Legal Description of the property.  The assessor can give you that info. from the street address.  It will have to go on a public auction (see the legal section of the newspaper) first, then, if no one buys it, (probably won't because too much is owed against it), it will be bought/owned by the leinholder.  THEN, they will list it to sell.  We spent 2 years chasing one, but now we live in it and couldn't be happier.  If you have specific questions, let me know and I will do my best to answer.

Where I live you can access that info on line. all deeds, mortgages, liens, etc. are recorded at the registry of deeds at the county court house.

The house I am chasing is in foreclosure. I did dig up the county records, but, our county doesn't give out the info. I need. They show the tittle records, but no lenders. They also don't put houses up for auction here unless it's for taxes. This one isn't. I don't know what the story is behind the people leaving. I just know it's empty, pretty nice and others want it too. It's worth about $150K and the amount foreclosed on is $72K.

I don't know about Florida, but here it is all public record and anyone can access it, if they know what they are looking for.  Another thing to try is sign up with some of those sites that inform you of foreclosures in the area/zip code.  It sounds like it is worth pursuing and being the first guy to contact them.  I DO know that when I contacted the lein holder, (5-6 different times), they couldn't/wouldn't tell me much because of "privacy" without the owners written consent.  I got written consent and they still didn't have much to say, until they actually repossesed it.  This situation took about 2 years.  Finally I called again and it was the right time and right person.  They said it was to be listed next week with a local realtor.  I contacted him and had a bid submitted the day it went on the market.

The online foreclosure people are the ones that contacted me. Every now and they toss me a free bone to try to get me to sign up. They want a small fortune for it. If I were in business doing this it would be different. Could be worth it. Not for me looking for one score.

I just need to find the bank holding the mortgage or at least the owners. I checked the mailbox and it is packed with FORECLOSURE BUYERS notes. My chances are slim, but i think worth a little time.
