69 charger man

hey all.. well imm putting disk brakes on my 70 charger.. the set i have are from a 69 and are the pin type.. my question is what way do i mount the caliper.. towards the front or rear???? since i have seen them both ways..

and also, will my stock prop. valve.. the one for drum brakesat 4 cornersĀ  work,l if i add the willwood adj valve for the rearwith the 10 psi residual valve... and yes i am going to switch to a disk master cylinder

many thanks

It doesn't matter (IMO) if the calipers are mounted to the rear or front. It's like arguing whether it's easier to push a door closed or pull it, toilet paper over or under, etc. You DO want to make sure, no matter how you mount them, that the bleeder valve is on top when you're done or you won't be able to get all the air out of the system (which is how you have it now). It might be easier to route the hoses with the calipers on one way vs. the other but as far as stopping power I can't see how it matters.

As far as the stock prop valve I believe they are at a preset % and if your Charger had drums all around it before you might discover that the setting will not work for discs on front. The Wilwood "adj valve" you mentioned is actually a proportioning valve also and designed to make it so you can set the brakes to about 70%-30% front to rear with the discs on the front dong most of the work. Adding it inline will just create a redundancy so that you can set the fronts to work harder than the rears so i don't think there's any reason to remove the stock prop valve. I'm not an expert on that stock prop valve so hopefully someone else will chime in. The 10 psi residual pressure valve is correct for your system and is designed to retain pressure to the rear brake cylinders so they don't bleed off. You can also use wheel cylinders with cup expanders in lieu of the 10 psi check valve.

I'm pretty sure you want those '70 calipers hung to the front.  Otherwise you'll have a kink in your brake hose.

sometimes with the caliper in front it interferes with the sway bar on pre 70 cars
the proportioning valve is not going to work well with the disc drum combo , your back brakes will lock up before the front are doing much work at all

The combination valve from any F, M, J, or R body should give you the brake bias you need. The one in my Charger is out of a '77 Volare four door and works great. Just make a note of where the lines go from the different ports before you hack it out of the donor.
