No, not "Throw it in the ocean!"  I bought a '78 Fury recently and it has the above listed motor.  I don't have the money to swap carb and intake right now but I'd like to dump the lean burn.  When I pulled the air cleaner and the dist cap today I found a points distributor with vacuum advance.  Did someone already dump the LB?  I'm going to the junk yard, what do I need to convert to electronic?

I'd like to put a 4bbl on there at some point, any recommendations?  Car will be driven gently, no hotrod.  Tall open rearend, 3 spd auto. 97k miles.

Nice car -for a four door, I had a 77 grand-it sounds like somebody allready did get rid of it for you. Your best option -what I did was a MSD unit on a Mopar dist. but I had my lean burn still on. It work great all I did was to changed the dist springs to light weight. You need a ele. dist. -guess you could go Mopar but the MSD spark box is better. Some people on here do not like them so Crane and others make units too. Thats what I would do unless you have smog test, then you might just leave it alone. Points work ok when fresh.

Oh sorry junk yard right-well the wire that goes from the spark box -it has that big round boot with one screw in the middle- take that and all the wires to the resistor and un plug it by the dist and disconnect it at the coil. Take the dist. and coil and resistor and wire and just find where your 12 volts allways is and 12 volts when switch is on is. Maybe  somebody can tell you how to wire it, but thats the parts you need.

Its so much work and the stuff is so old and dirty I would just take the dist. and buy a aftermaket spark box and coil. Work better and be easier. Yes it cost a little more. The cheapest thing is just put new points in it and maybe a new coil and spark plug wires and plugs.

get a mopar elctronic conversion kit. easy, no messing around, plus has instructions.  did this to a '80 newport cop car bought a local aution. that thing flew!  what mopar was trying to do  back then, was trying to get gas milage by advancing the timing. what the air cleaner computer did was advance the timing 28 degrees beyond the way already advanced base timing. it did this by advancing the timing 2 degrees every couple of seconds when off idle untill it hit the 28 degrees mark, or you floored it, or you hit the brakes. then it would start all over again. ran like sh&t. the dealers back in those days, got sick of working on them, and put the mopar conversion kit in them and their problems were over.    bruce   oh ya, we put a  box stock edelbrock carb on the cop car to...pitched the thermoquad.

as above grab the Dist , ECU , Ballast & wiring
swap the dist noting which way the rotor is pointed Before removing it , mount the ecu , there will be a 12 v power wire to the Lean burn Computer , hook it to the side of the ballast where the blue wire hooks to Both terminals , connect the black wire wqith yellow trace to the - coil terminal & plug in the dist . start the engine & set the timing
