I had a real close call on the road recently.

I was coming home late Friday night from the county fair two weeks ago after going to the truck and tractor pulls and catching up with some friends I hadn't seen in a while. It was really foggy and I could not go much more than 40mph safely when out of nowhere a Jeep Wrangler rounded the corner in the fog and just crossed the centerline before getting back in his lane. I saw the lights just in time to get over in my lane out of the way and the Jeep must have been going at least 70mph or better in the fog.

I thought the driver was probably drunk due to the time of night and the way he was driving but I was thankful he didn't hit me. The next Monday morning I was talking to one of the girls I work with and she mentioned one of her classmates was killed in a Jeep. I knew right away it must have been the guy I met and it turned out he died on the very next curve after meeting me...literally seconds after passing me he went into a ditch for 500 feet jumped a driveway and rolled 160 feet. He was thrown from the Jeep and killed instantly. I still can't get the thought of that Jeep coming out of the fog and seeing the taillights disappear in my mirror knowing what happened next.

Thankfully, noone including myself was hurt or killed by him. I called the sherriff as soon as I heard to see if they needed any more information and the officer said that alcohol and speed were the likely cause. The officer was thankful I called with info about speed, weather, and time. He was also glad to hear I was not hurt by the guy.

One positive note that evening was at the truck pull a well used 1982 Dodge W250 lost by less than a foot because his driveshaft broke to a new Chevy and he beat out 14 other Chevy and Ford trucks.

did you have your truck or the charger?

Actually, I was driving a '95 S10 I use for work so it would not have been good a very good outcome in a head on crash.

Damn, that sounds like it could have been a scene in one of the "Final Destination" movies....ACK! :o

I'm glad you're ok. :yesnod:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I have had 2 close calls which my car would have been totaled and both times it was some jerk blowing a red light , and not a yellow to red but 5 seconds after it turned red ! The last time I lock the brakes up and just missed a SUV and I seen some lady holding a cell phone to her head. Man it was so close, she seen it and try to stop too but could not. Some road crew guys seen it and one guy ran up to her truck yelling at her. I just took right off, nothing happen and she did get scared she was going to get hit so whats the point about yell at her ? We all make mistakes, but hopefully we get a second chance and can leaned from them. Its too bad a young life was lost, its so sad how many healthy young people get killed just by driving down a street.

myk

That's creepy stuff, and I'm glad that you made it out alive.

The other day, I was driving down a curving freeway on-ramp when.......I saw an Explorer sitting sideways in the middle of the ramp!  If I had been driving any faster, and if I had been driving the Charger instead of the Z28 that day who knows, I may never have made it this far.  Some F@@king people shouldn't be allowed to god damn drive...

Oh, as I sat there in a cloud of tire smoke trying to figure out how I was going to dry my pants, I witnessed the Explorer slowly turn in my direction and start to drvie forward, then stop and reverse itself doing a 6 point turn; the truck then drove away as if nothing wrong had happened...
