I am planning on installing my new gas tank in my 70 Charger RT and I am wondering
how to correctly install the fuel sending unit?

Well it is not that hard. First put the rubber gasket seal in the lip in the tank opening slide the sending unit in makeing sure the pickup tube will be at the lowest point in the tank once installed, put the locking ring on and use a hammer and a blunt object you can use a big screw driver if these are all new parts but a piece of hard wood or something is better to get used to. make sure the seal stays in place and you get the locking ring tight. Then put the tank in.

and don't bend the arm or you'll be posting in a while that your fuel gauge is off.
good luck :icon_smile_big:
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Well, I started my car up from hiberation on Sunday and found that my gauge is reading empty. Since I always fill the tank when I park it for it's winter nap, I'd say I have a problem. My guess would be that the float has taken on gas.

Haven't climbed underneath yet but is the sending unit accessible without dropping the tank?

I'm hoping that it may be the ground strap but I really doubt that given the fact that it was working fine when I parked it. I seem to recall beng able to but a replacement float somewhere as well. Metal vs plastic. anyone?

Make sure you install a fresh sock on the pick up tube..  Also smear some Vaseline on the seal. It will help to seat it properly.

Whats the trick to getting the locking ring off without taking tank out?
"An aggressive exterior with power to match was enough to pull in the performance boys-especially when abetted by a pair of pipes blaring out the back, and brawny red-sidewall rubber hitting the pavement."

"........the four speed box changes cogs with the precision of a sharp axe striking soft pine."

On my 69  you need to jack the car up. put jackstands under the frame rails and let the rear drop down. it gives you more clearance. This has always worked for me. Being a big guy I like the extra room when working under the car anyways.
