It's been a while since I last gave an update but here it goes.  I drilled out all the spot welds for the rear panel under the tail lights and got it off there.  The new one fits pretty good considering.  I have having a serious problem with one of the corners, the left one.  The right side fits nice, but the left one has a huge gap, about a half inch between the quarter and the corner.  Any suggestions as to waht to do here?

Is the new rear panel deeper pushing it off the car farther causing the new corner piece to also be pulled away from the 1/4 panel ?If so,the rear panel might need to be worked to get it closer to the car,and that would bring in the corner piece.Any pics?

That's about what's happening.  I took some pics tonight, I need to get my laptop out and fire it up to upload them.
Edit:  Here are the pics, the file sizes are kind a big...

The rear panel is not welded on yet, just attached with some self tappers.

BlueSS454,something does'nt look right about that corner also, like it is not stamped out right, and not big enough. Here are a couple pics that I had taken to post a while ago for someone else.My car is an original sheetmetal car including the rear valance and corners so what you are looking at are totaly original for your referance, also note that only on the side it was seam sealed to the 1/4 panel  but not at the corner to the valance.

The only other thing I can think of is the way the aftermarket quarter panel was.  It extended out about 3/4" too far so I cut the end off and rewelded it so the area where the bumper would sit is flush all the way down.  I did take into account the fact the bottm end of the quarter is slightly skewed back.  The flanged part of the corner piece was hitting the extra metal on the quarter skin so I cut a slit and bent it back to get it out of the way.  It helped a little but not enought.  The other thing I noticed on mine was that the rear panel really should set further back into the trunk that it does.  Maybe this is due to the fact that it is a repro piece of metal made with a crummy die??  The only other things I need to know are A) does the upper flange of the corner go behind the rear panel or in front of it?  and B)  what is the measurement (width) of the recessed quarter area where the bumper would be sitting in relation to the side of the car?

it goes behind the rear panel,on the measurement,I would have to go to my shop and measure it for you.Get back to you on that.

That would be awesome.  Thanks!!

BlueSS454,the depth that it is set in is 3/4 ",and the width you are looking for is 1 1/2" ,but out at the side of panel it is on an angle going toward the side reflector it is 1 3/4".Here are a couple pics to show you....

Those measurements are going to be a big help.  Thank you much!!
