Sound and Heat Barrier for Interiors

After paying nearly $ 4.66 per square foot for this "Cool-it" insulating material at a local S&K Racing Shop here in NY for my 68 Charger, I started searching for other sources that would carry a similar material for less money. Yesterday, I received J.C Whitney's catalog in the mail and sure enough, they have several types of noise and heat barriers that are in the $ 1.25 up to $ 3.00 range per square foot. Ofcourse you have to add the shipping costs, but so far it's been the least expensive stuff I could find. The stuff they sell at these home improvement giant stores is sort of the same stuff but is much thinner in thickness. It also only comes in narrow rolls. I could only find it in 3" wide and it was called "quick roof". I looked at that stuff and was not impressed at all. Also another source is Summit Racing which also carries a material for $ 1.00 per square foot and it's called "The Wonder Mat", and shipping is included. They do have a charge for handling.

The "Cool-it" noise and heat insulation barrier stuff I used in the firewall so far is about 4 mm thick. The "Wonder Mat" @ Summit Racing I believe is about 10 mm. I'm probably going to continue with the 4 mm "Cool-it" type material - cut, peel and apply.

Most of the stuff that comes from JC Whitney is cheap... in more ways than one. I pretty much decided JC isn't really worth the hassle.

There's one under the brand name of Lizard Skin. Another is Cool Car Ceramic coating. There are a few other brands as well. Drop Top told me about the stuff and you can find it in street rodder magazines (or on the web).

If you can get the name of it CP, I'd appreciate it.  It seems like the ones I've seen (Lizard Skin and Cool Car) have to be sprayed.  I'd feel better knowing someone else has had success brushing it before I make the investment.  Thanks.

The "How to Apply" instructions for Cool Car specify a "A 2" OR-3" Foam or bristle brush".

Canada has been for awhile - I believe.
In US only in certain government agencies. We are building a bridge for the New York State Department of Transportation and all the contract plans and shop drawings are in metric. Talk about confusing! - you pull you hair out on conversions! You must pay careful attention cause errors are very easy to make trying to work with both. It's almost like a sick joke/obstacle that the state puts out to make things a bit more hard for the contractor!

It's quite common for us to still use lbs and ft/in for how much you weigh and how tall you are.

if we think that only USA and UK use imperial measurements ( and some influenced areas ) and  the rest of the world that is GIANT AND MOSTLY OF HEART that change will be the right step...

The liquid deadners seem interesting. I put spry-on bedliner on my floor boards during the repaint for added protection(thin coat). Would spray-on bedliner work on the firewall? I'm wondering if heat would affect the bedliner material.

I use rattle can bedliner from the local parts store on my dual snorkel air cleaner some other underhood brackets.  I had headers and it got real hot under there and I never had any heat issues.

Dang Paul! slow down, I'm trying to catch up!!   That looks very nice stuff, I have to order me some....trying to get my Charger home next week! That roller thingy is a good idea to get the wrinkles and air bubbles out.

   Got the floor done.  i used por-15 and then the next night i got the edead down.  carpet and seats are next.  right after i get my wiring done to the back.

I need to do that with my Challenger, do you drill out the holes for your seat after the carpet is installed?

I drilled them before i put the deadener and carpet down.  then after carpet i found them and poked a little hole thru the carpet with a punch.  That way the seat bolts help hold down the carpet and keep it in place.
