Ok so I'm tired of the old keep the foot on the gas at lights to charge the sytem gig when its rainign and I use the brakes...

would this bad boy work?

what other options are their out their to upgrade the alternator?

Ive heard of using a gm internally regulated one which lets me get rid of some of the wires under the hood to which sounds like a nice idea... :P

What else?

I use a GM.  It was pretty easy; it fits with a slightly different spacer, that was pretty much all I had to do.
I've seen Nacho post several direct replacement dodges from later year vehicles, though, which may be nearly the same as the one you're linked to.  To be honest, my car never had a stock alternator, though (missing when I bought it), so I'm not 100% sure :P

Thats a very tipical Mopar alt stuff. The problem is not the alt itself like the not charge at iddle moment, specially with engine geared and brake lights at traffic light moment. Even more at nights. A/C cars are more affected. The REAL problem is more related with the bigger alt pulley if is the one you have. With an smaller pulley you will be at half of the way of solution.

The best solution I have found as stated by defiance is what I have made. With a laters 70s alternator that has a wider stator able to caption more magnetic field, helping at iddle moment and at teh same time getting more output. Rest of parts are shared with earliers alts, like rotos, bearings and brushes... also the diodes bank used on first generations of squarebacks alts.

The one I'm saying is the second generation squarebacks alt with double field where stator is hidden by housing. Is a plug and play job. If you have an older kind one field alt, then you will need just ground one of the brushes or upgrade to electronic regulator and run one extra wire from ignition.

The one you post from ebay is not the one I'm saying however it could work ;) I like more the Original stock old fashion looks.

Will be nice to don't get damage on stock wires just run new and heavier wires, parallel with stock ones, from alt stud and starter relay stud to ammeter studs throught the firewall. MaMopar already had this solution to heavy packaged cars, in that way the extra load will run to these wires.

Another members have talk about run wires direct to batt... Is fine to chareg the batt, but however, extra loads needed by car feeded by alt will run thought the same  old wire up to inside the car cab main splice. you will get the same burn wire risk on bulkhead. Running up to ammeter you are saving from bulkhead terminals burn. Ammeter STUD itself is able to drive lots of loads. Maybe not the ammeter, but read below the reason why ammeter won't be more the burning problem ( average load upgrade )

With this upgraded alternators, charge output is more constant, no peaks able to get heats or damage anywhere so you'll be fine on ammeter and terminals.

The problem with burned isntallations are more realated with these high peaks outputs from alt for long times when you press gas pedal, since battery has to get again the charge lost at idle, specially at nights. Beside this, the rust and dust on terminals, and also loosen.

Once you get an average charge load, burned and overheated installations will gone.

GM alternators are the best ones just for that same reason, good average charge load from basic design, without care or upgrade. So if you can get a REALLY GOOD average load, why not to stuck with our Mopars parts ? GM alts and installations also drives high outputs loads thourght same old wiring without problems... average load is the reason. Once you get that saved on a Mopar, the promblem is jumped ;)

GM alt needs some wiring and hardware mods.

You can also upgrade your old alt with these:

But laters 70s alts are adirty cheap at any junkyard and doesn't need upgrade.

Here is the alt I'm talking, mounted on my car. Noticed the stator not visible, however is the same old fashion look.

I  went with GM charging system too....got rid of all that external BS.

I'm liking the idea of the gm alternator where did you guys get your alternators from? And can I get details on the wiring upgrade.. I guess you gotta remove all the stuff to the regulator? Since their internally regulated...
