As in '69, 430 V8. And would you define it as a muscle car?

Brock Samson

i nearly bought one from some one on this site, they are worth approx seven to ten K give or take.. depending on condition..
the later boattails (especially the first two years) are appreciating in value and are listed as such by Hemmings...
i'd concider pimping one out...
all black, huge meats and lowered..  :yesnod:

In general I guess. My mom saw one for sale she thought was interesting but she's not too detail oriented regarding automotive specifics, if you know what I mean.

I don't see anything selling for more than $9k at the moment: http://motors.search.ebay.com/?from=R40&satitle=buick+riviera

The '69 front end sure doesn't do much for me:

63 was the first year for the Riv. I like the 65 Riviera GS with the clamshell headlights and 425/ dual quad combo.

I think those 69's have hideaway headlights. When you open the hood, they're staring up at you...or was that the Toronado? :scratchchin:

I think it's mainly the boattail versions like in Strat's pic that are collectibles.
To me, there's some lines on those cars that are acceptable, but there's so many others that just ruin the overall effect.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

My aunt used to have a 65' Riv.....it had a 425ci "Wildcat" w/2x4bbl carbs!  Car was very cool! 66'Toranado was also very cool. Jay Leno had his guys build him a custom one last year on TLC Network.  :2thumbs:

Every time I think of Buick Rivieras, I think of 350 pound greasy-haired goombas wearing gold chains and wife-beaters while cruising the Jersey shore.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

Here is my buddys pimped out Riviera.  Also has power windows!!!

I always thought the first year (63/64?) was ok looking. I liked those little fake waste gates on the rear 1/4 panel, kinda Chargerish (or is the Charger kinda Rivieraish?)

I don't know if they're muscle cars or not, but personally I think they'd make pretty cool cruisers or lowrider cars.

Kind of the same fate as Impalas I suppose. Some cars that would seem to fit the muscle car definition just don't quite cut it for various reasons.

I'm glad you asked, but you might be sorry. Here goes: I recently told my mom (who recently came into a good-sized chunk of money) that one of the best investments right now is muscle cars. Not to take advantage of ignorant buyers (because as you know I'm not a fan of that) but to purchase and store until the market increases a fair enough amount that she can make some interest on it. As far as "flipping" goes I do not have a problem with people buying a valuable car today at fair price and then selling it again a year or two later at a fair price but reaping the benefits of the market increase. But buying a car for the sole purpose of screwing someone out of $2k as quickly as possible is wrong IMO. So anyway, I told her about this concept and told her I would help her buy a Mopar if she's interested. She was a bit tepid with the idea but then a week or two later she began finding cars sitting around in empty lots and small towns that she thinks might be worth something. I'm glad she's interested but she has taken the idea and sort of ran off in the wrong direction with it, leaving me in the odd situation of trying to learn the values of all these cars I know little to nothing about. She found this Riviera that someone is selling for $3,500 and so I looked it up and found very nice ones selling for $5k-$8k. Big deal. She also found a '75 Camaro and a couple other fairly worthless cars so she's kind of going in circles. She won't ask for my help and kind of argues with me about the values of the cars she finds, as if I'm the one setting the values on them. It's one of those situations where if it's her idea it's a good idea, if it's someone else's it's destined to fail.

Yes I would because, like I said, I would help her buy a Mopar.

I don't know about current values, but I sure miss my old 69 Riv. They were quite heavy, but I would still call it a
muscle car. Mine had buckets, console, 430-4. One of my favorite non-Mopar cars. Heres a pic of my old Riv.

I would call it a Personal Luxury car,..
along with the Thunderbird which defined the market,.. Grand Prix, Toronado, Elderado, Cougar, and Monte Carlo.
The Charger tapped that market too,..
the Skylark Grand Sport was the Buick Muscle Car,..

Geez, it sounds like it would have been better to have mentioned nothing of the idea in the first place. :-\ My Mom has a tendancy to do that too & I usually regret even saying anything at all.
