What is a good alternator for a 73 charger with a 440?

Ghoste

I am guessing that you do not mean correct as in "restoration correct"  but rather which one is best suited to your needs and to recommend that, you need to tell us what kind of loads you are putting on it.  Is this going to be a more or less stock setup or do you foresee a lot of high draw audio equipment and such?

as usuall I recomend lates 70's Mopar alternator, able to drive up to 80-90 amps, charge at iddle since it has the smaller pulley and easy replacement parts still around there, beside DIRTY CHEAP on any junkyard.

however if you go with any alt upgrade, Run parallel heavier wires ( 8-10 gauge ) up to ammeter on dash From starter relay stud ( with a 14 gauge fuse link ) and alt stud to save from burns on bulkhead with the extra load.

Yes Ghoste I am just asking what is a good alternator that can handle the normal load of engine and lights.
What is the correct fit and a good brand?

Ghoste

Have you considered finding a reputable and local auto electric shop to rebuild the one you have?

I don't have the original. The car came without engine.

So can I just go to a yard and pick one of any mopar. Am I limited to years or engine size on the donor?

There are a few New Yorkers and some challengers in a local yard. Not sure if they still have alts but its worth it if they will work.

Nacho-RT74

for a while they are double field and your car has the electronic regulator ( it should be ), yes you can pick up any Mopar alt. Lates 70's earliers 80's are the best option. Those are the ones where stator iron center is hidden by housing and not between housing, but any double field will work.

Limited about the years or models ? of course not, but between Challies and New Yorkers this last ones should be the best, since normally they are deluxe loaded cars.
