ChargerJake

Hey guys, I'm Jake, and I just joined last week or so.  I've been wanting a Charger for years now, and it looks like my dream may soon be a reality.  I have a co-worker who brought me to his friends house, who's got a '68 Charger for sale- ALL ORIGINAL, sits waiting for some resto love!

I hope to buy it from him within the next couple months, but it's got a 318.  I plan on keeping the 318, but putting a 440 in the car.  I'd love to have a 440-6 pack.   My questions are;

What would I have to change/ add to a stock 440 to accomplish this?

Would I need to do anything different with the tranny?  (I'm not sure what the tranny is, probably a 727?)

Anything else I would have to take into consideration?

I have little knowledge of restoring a car, and what little I know is from books, this forum, research, etc.  Nothing hands on.  I know, I have one hell of a undertaking in store for me!  Any info provided would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

These might get you started.  Give ya an idea of what things cost. I'm sure others will jump in and explain about  the pistons, rods and stuff.  You'll also need a big block tranny. Alot of very knowledgeable people here, who can take you through the whole process.

I used to have a handle on life....but it broke off.

Since the pinnacle of your future plans involves the 440, make sure that the current transmission is a 727, or be prepared to buy that also...

General_01

You will have to buy a Big Block tranny regardless, so you WILL be getting a new transmission too.

http://aandatrans.com/ Check out this web site for your trans questions and needs. You will need 440 mounts and a wiring harness from http://yearone.com/ or someone like this. If you plan from the beginning, it will be very close to just a plug and play build. The K-frames were the same from the 318 to the 440. Make sure you get a complete 440 with all the brackets and accessories. That will be a huge help.
