Hey Guys, what are you useing for the plastic dash trim on your 68 chargers. Specificly, the instrument cluster, radio bezel, plastic above the glovebox and dash end caps. Mine has a ribbed texture to it....a bit different than what's on the 70 which has a pebble grain, if that makes any sense.

I've got some SEM satin stuff for the soft padding, pillar trim, kick panels etc....but the dash looks to be a little "flatter" in appearance.

Thanks, Ron

I just used SEM on my metal and plastic dash on my Fury and it came out beautifully.  I prefer some shine though and added a semigloss clearcoat.

On my 69 I had my bezels restored by Dave Patik from Performance Car Graphics.

He used Dutch Boy satin black

Ron, are you planning on having the bezels restored by a place like CV Vacuum Platers? If so I believe they paint them for you once they've been replated. Otherwise, I don't think you want to use any SEM dye like you would on the soft parts (if that's what you're thinking) but rather a semi gloss paint. Looking at my '68 paint chip chart it says Ditzler code #9324 "satin black" was used on the upper and lower instrument panel. You can call someone like Year One or Totally Auto Inc. to verify and purchase.

I had  CV Vacuum Platers do my cluster face and radio bezels, I know Chuck pretty good, he is a great guy.
His shop has gone from small to huge in the last 6yrs. Anyway as said, if he does the chrome process on
your face plates he does the black as well.

My dash piece above the glove box still had great chrome, so I just masked it off and painted it with a satin
black model paint, its in those smaller spray cans, it turned out perfect, even sitting in the car looking at it
you can't see the color change  :icon_smile_big:

Thanks for the feedback fellas.  Seems like the concensus is that Satin Black is the correct color for these pieces. I'll pick some paint up at the hobby shop and give it a try. The cluster is in great shape as are the other pieces but i'd like them all painted at the same time so that they match. The other pieces are original and slightly faded while the cluster was a spare that came with the car and is almost perfect....just an ever so slight yellowing on the fuel guage.
