i have a friend that has a 90 pick up with a inline six and is curious to know how difficult it would be to stuff a 440 in there,  any one know, or anyone ever do this?

As far as dimensions it should slide right in there.  I had an 88 dodge pickup with a 318 in it.  The engine had plenty of room on all sides.  The only clearance issue you may have is between the radiator and fan but if choosing your parts correctly it shouldn't be a problem.  You'll have to do your own measuring to see if the motor mounts will fit.
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

I thought the slant six was replaced with the 3.9V6 by 1990. I assume it is fuel injected so the computer may be the only big obstacle as I don't know how involved 1990 wiring was. The early trucks just have a standard electronic ignition. It would be fairly easy to just get an older harness if it is an issue.

I have swapped several earlier small block trucks to big blocks. The motor mounts, oil pan, water pump housing, and exhaust manifolds are all special for a big block truck so those will be needed. If it is a 4wd the motor mounts are offset different than a 2wd and there is a special power steering pump mount. For some reason I think the pulleys are different too but I can't swear to it. There should be no radiator clearance problems but I doubt the existing radiator will cool a big block.

There are kits available to help do this conversion but, you have to use headers instead of the center dump manifolds.

i had an 82 slant six pickup that i swaped to a big block. i used a 68 383 out of a monaco i believe, i was able to make the car manifolds work, but had to notch like 1/2 an inch of the top frame rail. i had the truck pan and mounts, everything else was either the stock truck 6cyl or off the monaco. the truck had the 727 so all the shift linkage fit right on, i used the power steering pump ect from the car. wired it with standard electronic ign.
