Female seat belt buckles... gloss or semi gloss?

Were the female seat belt buckle colors that were painted to match the interior a gloss or a semi gloss color?  The vehicle in question is a 1969 Charger.

Thanks for the info.  Figures, after I just get my front buckles painted with a semi gloss that turned out too shiny.  Can you recommend any paint that is good and hard to resist chipping and scratching?  That is the main reason why I am redoing them.

just an idea , give them a quick gray scotchbrite and then  spray a couple of coats of matt  lacquer over the buckles.

Where can I get the matt laquer paint from?  Would an auto body paint supplier have it?  If so, what would the paint code be?

you can get matt lacquer mixed  or any matt and or texture interior paint at any paint supplier , but seeing it is just the belt buckles i would  use a  matt lacquer or satin black or a plastic trim matt black , from a rattle can . the paint shop should have these in stock or be able to advise were to get them.

I used Krylon Semi-flat black which matched pretty good  before but the problem was it was not durable.  I would like to try to find something that would last at least a couple years without having to redo them at least once a year.

Brian , does it chip an flake off ,  never used the stuff before ,but you say it is too shiny even when you used satin black . i am pretty sure they do a ultra matt black or some thing . like i say never used this stuff , i would give the buckles a  bit of a wet  flat with 800 grit then spray the black,( if any bare metal is visable spray a bit of primer on it and then give that a little flat  when dry. no matter what the product  technical information says , if you can spray on bare metal or not , thats just me though . ) but don't put too much on . just enough to cover it,  as the more( microns) of paint , thicker you put the paint on , the easer it will chip off .i mentioned before a bout  2 k paint , that is more chip resistend , but it will be more  expensive because  of  all of the  different  products you need to do this job . and at the end of the day you would only spray this stuff the the same as the rattle can . 1 or 2  thin coats just enough for color coverage , as put this on too thick it will chip off also eventually .

Tan Top,

The stuff that I got that was too shiny was a semi gloss engine paint.  I figured that the engine paint would be a little bit harder than a regular type of paint.  When it chips, it goes down to the bare metal so I don't know if it is more like a scratch or a lot of little chips from the buckle hitting my metal top on the console.  I will try that idea as I will probably use laquer thinner and get it totally off the buckle and start from bare metal using an etching primer.  Hopefully the etching primer on top of the light wet sanding will help the adhesion better.
