Best test for a water pump?

I am experiencing an overheating problem that I think is going to be related to the water pump. I do get flow when the tstat opens but my hoses remain soft (compared to a 428CJ). It will creep up to 220 sitting in traffic on a hot day but will cool to 195 cruising at 3800rpms (4:10 Dana). Whats the best way to check water pump function? Is there a pressure check on the radiator? Thanks

I would say thats prolly pretty average.

Its also possible that your water temp gauge is out of wack.

If you didnt, take note of what the gauge says when the Therm opens up,

Mine used to be like that....

But I pulled the housing off..... cleaned a bunch of crap out of it.

Then I put in a new aluminium radiator in. Doesnt go past 195 Deg  reguardless of what Im doing.

Im sure others will chime in.

But to me if thats all stock it doesnt seem to bad.
