what should the reading be on a 440 engine ?

Just 6T9 CHGR

General rule of thumb is a minimum of 10psi for every 1k RPM

Mine is 70-80 psi cold, 50-60 psi hot at an idle

there are a lot of factors, clearances when the engine was machined  , type of oil used , type of oil pump used , most engines I build have std volume high pressure oil pumps this should prevent the pan from running dry on a long pull & stil have lots of pressure
What is your oil pressure & how new is the engine ?

OK I have a new 360 with hight volume oil pump and my newly refurbished gauges are pi$$ing me off. My oil gauge reads 40 at startup then steadily climes off the scale.  :flame:  I'm using a oil pressers sender off a 80 dodge truck, could that be my problem? I had the old school mec gauge connected to make sure everything was fine, now I'm kicking my self in the but because I don't remember the pressure it ran at.

I would start off with the correct year sender.....
