I've seen that most bell housings have 2 bolt paterns where the transmission bolts up to. this bellhousing only has one. I don't see this being a problem as long as it bolts up to my transmission. i have an A-833 OD. i'm not sure the year. will this bell housing work?

SIRNIK73 this will not work with the overdrive trans, the OD has a larger front main bearing retainer Diameter. this is the cone on the front of the Trans. IT will fit an older stock 4 speed tho.

is there a way to tell the diffrence by looking at them... or at some point did all the bell housings get the bigger hole? some of these ebay guys arn't exactly clear about what they have... what should i be looking for?

The casting number on the smallblock OD bellhousing is 202507 and it is found on the back face where the tranny bolts up. They often would use a ball stud for the clutch fork instead of the older design. The hole must measure 5 1/8" in order to work without modifying the fornt bearing retainer.

Here is a link from C-C.com which is a little long but gives some good info.

If you are going to put an od trans behind a big block, you need to find a bellhousing with the 4.81" bearing retainer hole. Then you need to have your retainer cut down to size or I think they are reproducing new ones.

The 68-69 bellhousings with the 4.81 retainer hole uses the 11" flywheel. 1970 and later uses 10 1/2"

If you are running a big block follow what 58pwrwgn posted.

the OD retainer can be cut down for a lot less $$ than buying a new retainer , I do this all the time as long as the bell has the 4.8 hole not the 4.32 hole in it
