I'm in the process of converting my 1968 Charger R/T from automatic to manual transmission.
I've recently obtained the backup light and bezel that mount on the dasboard.
Could somebody please provide me with the exact measurement to place this item correctly?
Thanks  :icon_smile_big:

I think there should already be a hole for it on the lower lip of the dash frame.  Look approximately under the ashtray.

Are there any holes under there that fit?

Magnumcharger

The bezel I have is one I got off of a 1967 Coronet dash.
It has a 3/4" hole that I'm assuming should be the same for the Charger dash.
I could be wrong though...

I think the 67 style is different from the 68-70 style....at least that is what is stated on Tony D'Agostino's site.  he sells the repro bezels

Looking at Ty's interior it seeme like the bezel is in line with the upward sweep of the center dash pad......inbetween the washer switch & the pad

That hole you're pointing at on the Coronet dash is for the emergency brake bezel.  The pic that Chris posted certainly shows the location and I don't see it on the bottom of the dash you show.  Maybe you have to drill for it.  I thought they came stamped for them already.  I know I've done a couple of four speed conversions in my dim past and they were there but who knows?

The hole very well might be there. If you look at the pic of the repro bezel for 68-70 you will see the base is much narrower to fit in one of those pre drilled holes

You're right.  I'm looking for a hole to fit that big ass 67 version.  BTW, if you decide to go for a repro 2nd gen one, pm me if you want to sell the 67 one.

Since I have auto tranny the back up lamp warning light is not part of equipment but I'm tempted to install the seatbelts  in dash warning light, that apparently is part of equipment on 3rd gens with tuff wheel. Does somebody knows where to get this seatbelts warning light ? ( beside used market of course )

I`ll have to disagree on the hole already being there.Basing this on the `69 rear window defogger switch if the hole was there and no switch, you would be left with a large hole.

Ghoste

Except this one is one the bottom and the only way you'd see it is if you were laying on your back on the front floor of the car.

:iagree: as well but the def switch hole is more like a cave compared to the reverse light hole ;)

Unless that mounting is 1/4in in diameter I`m sticking with my story.Afterall there was a broadcast sheet taped to the back of glove box liner. That would tell the assembler whether a 4spd or auto.A pilot hole yes I could believe that.

Ghoste

Maybe I just lucked out.  :shruggy:  All I can say is that I did two four speed swaps waaay back in the 80's, both on 69 cars and both of them had a hole under there that fit that bezel?  Maybe it was one of those Lynch Road things?

UFO

Could be, All my dash frames are from Hamtramck cars.

Ghoste

And I'm only throwing out a half baked theory there, I don't know where those cars were built.  One was a Charger and one was a Coronet.

In reference to a '68 that was recently on the Bay.

Didn't the reverse lights appear with the change over to the Hurst shifters? The VIN looks like it would be early enough to have the Inland....

Could this apply?  Or is it just the personal preference to have one?
