So I got my car out this weekend and was cruising around, and everything runs great....Except when I really run the rpm's up the motor will just cut out and then kick back in a few seconds later. I changed the fuel filter and that improved quiet a bit, but it still is happening. Do I need a new fuel pump as well?

If the pump is not a high flow one, it would help. Get a Carter or holley , not a stock one from your part store. Call Jegs or Summit they have the good ones.

Thanks for the help I will look into that.

id check the tank and lines too probly clogged up with crap from over the years. i did mine a couple years ago and there was probly big handful of rust in the tank. while i was at it i put in new 3/8 line too and a carter street pump and no more high rpm troubles :yesnod:........Mike

My car has a 318, so do I still need the 3/8" line.

About the rust that is all I found in my fuel filter. It was pretty bad.

Runner

you dont need 3/8s line. i run 5/16s on my roadrunner and its running 11.30s@ 119 mph.   .  is it missfiring or does it flatten out? and what are you calling high rpm? it could be a coil, bulk head conector( been there). ignition box, pickup coil(or points). choke not opening all the way, carb tune up, valve springs ect.

When I say high RPMs I am talking like 4500, but before I changed my fuel filter is was more like 3000. No miss fires it just dies and then it will just start back up. It is like either the spark just stops or the fuel.
