They just installed the center grill from a '73 into a '70 Challenger R/T. The '70 headlight bezels were left in the car. They still have the '70 marker lights, emblems, stripe, etc.  If you notice during the show both of the Vin #'s are shown. One is a 383 R/T and the other is a 440 R/T.

THE CHARGER PUNK

Because that was the year it was made and part of it was to make it look like a brand new Challenger. Kind of like stealing a 3 year old mustang now versus a 2006 model. But this was a cheaper solution than actually buying a brand new Challenger.

I was wondering about that too. Toby Halicki ran a salvage yard operation and maybe he had a wrecked '70 to begin with and then found another to use as the double. I agree with you on the 'new" model year thought for changing the look.

It was not my idea, I have read or heard that somewhere. Can't remember where though.

so would 70 headlight buckets fit in a 73 grille? or would it be easier to fit a 73 grille into a 70?

694spdRT

It is not easy converting a '72,73 or '74 into a '70 because the headlights are mounted to the fenders in the '70 and 71 cars without welded in brackets. In effect you need '70 or '71 fenders to use the '70 headlight bezels.

To use the '73 center section like in the movie you should be able to just remove the '70 center grill section though. I don't know why anyone would do that in the real world though as a '70 Challenger has the best grill of all Challengers IMO.
