What's with all these holes in my trunk lid?

I took off my trunk lid so I could take it to the media blasters and I find all these weird holes on the underside.  One almost looks like a 9mm bullet hole and the others are just a bunch of tiny holes all clustered together.  I hope they weren't anything important because I welded them up already.

It will be interesting to see what the other side looks like, when it comes back from the blasters. If only are cars could talk.  ;D  ;)  :o

Rust proofing??? I know my next door neighbor's 71 Cuda had holes like that (not the little cluster ones) but had plastic plugs on them and he found a "Rusty Jones" certificate in the cars paper work that a rust proofing job had been installed on 1972. Do they look like drill holes or puncture holes? :shruggy:

They were puncture holes before I welded them up.  All gone now.

I thought about that too.  Maybe it was a mafia hitman's car.   ???

Maybe it was something packed into the trunk and they kept trying to shut the lid on it?

The bigger holes I have the same on my 73, looks like rustproofing shot in there.

Judging by all the rust that was inside I don't think it was for rust proofing.  I imagine they were caused by someone trying to close the trunk on a bunch of junk they put inside.  My car had an interesting life before I found her.  She had an old truck type vertical bug shield on the hood and a home made trailer hitch welded to the frame rails. :rotz:

Well....I'd say the big hole  was for rustproofing...but it doesn't appear that any was added....as far as the cluster of little holes.......We will probably never know....at any rate...they do not belong there.

It's a good thing they didn't belong because now they are all gone.   :icon_smile_big:
