Stainless Steel Trim Wet-Sanding and Polish:

Thank you for reading my note. In looking at my stainless steel trim (the trim closest to the interior weatherstripping / 69' Charger), it has some scratches that I'd like to see if I can clean up.

I've read everything from using water and baking soda to make a cleaning paste to wet sanding. Because those trim pieces will probably stay in there for as long as I, personally, own the car, do you feel that using ultra fine sandpaper (320 grit) and water followed by polish could be helpful? Has anyone ever shined up this particular trim by hand without taking them off the car?

Thank you for any and all info!

320 send pretty coarse to me for polish.  Even 1000 might be coarse.  I do not know if 2000 out finer would be ok with polishing later using compounds

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Thanks man - yeah, I obtained 1500 grit and will give it a shot....
