Haven't posted on this page in a while .

But thought I would share latest with my 68 R/T

I bought a new converter for the car from Pat at SMR transmissons here in Ontario.  After talking with Pat and sharing the details of the car , we ended up with a 10" 3000 stall unit.

Just driving the car around the city I could tell that there was a difference between the new 3000 and old 2500 No name converter that was in the car before.  The street manners were even better.

I took the car to the track to see if it made any changes.  My previous best was 12.95 @ 105

The days results were 4 more run in sub 13 sec range.

New personal best

60 ft           1.79
1/8 ET        8.15
1/8 mph     85.89
1/4 ET       12.73
1/4 mph    106.86

the car picked up 2.5 mph in the 1/8 and almost 2 mph in the 1/4.

When talking with Pat he suggested not to load the converter at the line, but the fastest run was with me bringing the RPM up to 1500 at the line. I think putting a real load of 2000+  would result in a better and 60ft and ultimately a better ET.

I feel the car has a 12.5 maybe even more?  It has already surpassed what I thought it would do so now I'm just letting it lead the way !!

We're good.  Thanks.  Hope you're doing well too.

There just isn't much overlap anymore on what I like about this hobby verses what everyone else likes.  The hobby used to be full of bright, creative, problem solving type of guys that actually learned by doing stuff.

I agree. Congrats to you all!  :2thumbs: This site has helped in so many aspects and I've friends world wide now. Being my 70 was a drag racer trailer driven to the track many said I'd bought a boondoggle. (Beat hard and broken/run down.)

Another new personal best .

12.58 @ 109 MPH

I chalk alot of it up to the weather that day. I made some cut outs for next year. There is also a bunch of other adjustments I have been wanting to try, but everytime I take the car out it keeps getting faster.  Although I did change torque converters, all other tuning parameters have stayed the same, last 3 times out. I still want to try bumping timing up 2 more degrees to 38 and throw in the lightest vacuum spring I  the carb.   Ohhh and now try it with open cut outs.  Next year should be fun

Yes I have had the car scaled. With out me in it and about 1/8 tank of gas it was , 3610 lbs.  With me in it and half tank of gas I would put it around 3850 at the line.

The engine is pretty basic. It is the original 440 to the car.

Bored .30
Icon Pistons
Stock rods
Stock crank
Original 906 Heads, factory valves with 3 angle valve job and some port work done by myself ( only did the intake , exhaust is untouched )
Hedman 1 3/4 headers
Pypes 2.5" exhaust with X - Dynomax Ultra flows.
Holley 3310s  heavily modified by myself but still a 750 Vac. Carb.
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
MP Electronic conversion ignition package ( Distributor and Orange ECU )
MSD Street fire Coil
Fire Core Plug wires
Stock oil pump
Aluminum High flow water pump
Running 2 electric fans on aftermarket aluminum rad.
Original untouched rear axle with 3.23 gears

Original Power brakes and Power steering.
I added my own frame ties

Running 26 x 10 MT Slicks on Steel rims

SMR 3000 Stall converter
Original 727 Transmission with TF-2 shift kit.

I have a few videos of the car up on You tube  just search for "sketchin777" Will post a few pics as well

Nice.
Consider a few things:

1) Take your previous track data and the recent data, correct to standard conditions, and then compare the results.  This will help separate the weather from everything else.

2) After #1 above, try to determine what was the cause for the change, good or bad.  You've changed the converter, so that is a variable.  Comparing all of the data on both best time slips might help you differentiate the converter from other things.

3) Sometimes an actual increase in performance (more power) in addition to better atmospheric conditions is a result of the jetting been more correct in the better air.  Or said differently, the car is jetted too fat.

And if I'm spending your money, I'd play around with carbs.  I'm sure you can improve over a 3310.

Have fun.
