Hello,
I have broken down my broadcast sheet and have decoded pretty much everthing, however my car also had the code for N51.What actually did that consist of?Any help would be grateful!...THANKS! :icon_smile_cool:
1971 Charger R/T   GY9 Dark Gold Metallic, V1Y Gold Top, GY4 Light Gold Interior- A/C, Rimblow, PW, Front Disc, AM-FM, Tach, Light Package, Slotted Tips, Trailer Tow Package(MIA)and a few other odds and ends...including a luggage rack!

I see your signature line says it had Trailer Tow. Is it called out on the fender tag as A35 or ?

The reason I ask is you get Maximum Cooling by default with that package. I would guess that maximum cooling N51 code includes the 26" radiator and a shroud. Also the other "N" codes call out other cooling items such as the torque drive fan(N65) and tranny cooler(N75) seperately. The power steering cooler was on cars with 3.55 gears and higher from what I remember.

Anyone else have a guess?
1968 Charger 383 auto
1969 Charger R/T 440 4 speed
1970 Charger 500 440 auto
1972 Challenger 318
1976 W200 Club Cab 4x4 400 auto
1978 Ramcharger 360 auto
2001 Durango SLT 4.7L (daily driver)
2005 Ram 2500 4x4 Big Horn Cummins Diesel 6 speed
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7 Hemi

Hey 69'
It is coded with A35 (on broadcast sheet not the tags,my car is a Lynch rd car)I do not see N65 N75.I believe that maybe they were all bunched together under A35.........but im not sure.

max cooling package was a 26" rad and i believe a different fan drive

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

I have seen an equipment list (at least for 1969) that stated N51 consisted of:

26" radiator
Fan Shroud
Torqe-drive fan (on non-A/C cars)
7-blade fan (diameter depended on a few other factors)
Power Steering cooler, if equipped (although I think Ty's correct that this was intended for 3.54/3.55 and numerically higher axle ratios)

There were several different combinations of parts that were used, depending on what specific equpment a car came with.  That's the basic rundown though.  The reason N65 isn't checked off on your Broadcast Sheet is that with your A/C-equipped car, they used a thermal clutch fan rather than the torque-drive version.  Normally, the parts that are part of a particular equipment package are still coded on the Broadcast Sheet even though the A35 Trailer-Tow package would automatically require them.  Guess the Assembly Line didn't figure the workers would remember what the packages included...

Do you need the specific part numbers that were applicable for your car?

Thanks everyone!
Hemigeno,
If you have the numbers avaliable i'll take em.I actually just purchased a 71 tow manual which really broke it down for me.I will be going back with a 26' radiator, tranny cooler,etc.........but im NOT putting that ugly looking hitch/hitchbar back on! :o

Goldfinger, I won't be back at the office until Monday or Tuesday - hope it can wait until then.  And BTW, don't worry about the hitch/hitchbar.  Those were never factory installed, only Dealer- or owner-installed.  That can go in the scrap pile immediately!

I do remember that your radiator was the same number as the '71 Hemi radiator...  Oh joy, if you don't have the original one it might mean big bucks. ::)

Goldfinger71

...............I AM NOT spending that kind of money on a radiator! :rotz:........can you say aftermarket! :yesnod:

Goldfinger,

just checked the numbers and the 440/N51 radiator is 3443959 - and that is the same as the '71 Hemicars came with.  I'm out of touch with what they are going for, it was just an assumption that they are high-priced.

Since your car has A/C, you should have the 2863260 7.25" thermally-actuated fan clutch/drive as opposed to the 3462112 torque drive unit.

2998326 fan shroud
2863216 fan

That's about it as far as the part numbers go.

Goldfinger71

Hemigeno,
Thanks for the numbers. And yes the radiators are VERY expensive!I believe I sill have the original fan,is there anything wrong with going with the viscous fan package. :icon_smile_question:I have a new one and I would like to put it to use.

Heck no, there's nothing wrong with using whatcha have.  The factory did use the thermal drive because of the A/C, but if you're using an aftermarket radiator (ESPECIALLY an aluminum radiator) you'll have no problem keeping things cool even with the viscous fan.

I was only giving you the numbers from the book, which is what you asked for.
