Daytona Fender Scoops - Paint Detail?

Guys anyone have a survivor picture of the inside (top of fender rear shot) of the Daytona fender scoop or can confirm if the fender scoops were installed before or after the fenders were painted?

Believe you are correct. Think the same was true for our Daytona. Still miss her, she does have a great home and Parent.

The person to ask is Bob Jennings (taxspeaker). He owns our Hemi Daytona which is a 100% original survivor. It'll take awhile to get an answer as he's "On the Road Again."

If the scoops weren't already on the mesh screen be painted also into the fender wheel area be alot of overspray.which you don't see  underside fender and screen and surrounding areas .That are usually bare black or surface rust

step 12 comes before step 27. the document says the fender was painted prior to installing the scoops

My guess is Creative didn't hold true to documentation provided by Chrysler. If you look at Bob's Hemi Daytona, the front grill and the air dam are both black and are original, and not the base color of the car as seen on many restored Daytona's. Did see one Dodge ad that had a Daytona with a grill that appeared to be black; granted it was a black and white ad; the grill was definitely not the same color as the car.

Looking at other differences in Daytona's such as the automatic transmission coolant lines to the aux cooler. Some look pretty haphazard. They were under a lot of pressure to pump out 503 Daytona's in a very short period of time. Not making excuses for Creative, just stating well known facts.

In a older mcg magazine a former creative employee mentioned painting daytona in 20 minutes etc etc article maybe called confessions by a ex employee

We looked at your photo and we see what you mentioned, but we don't see any indication the Scoop was on the fender when it was painted. It could have been painted on a board and have ended up with the same result inside. There's not enough light inside to see if there is primer visible on the top part of the fender inside the scoop. We do know the primer Creative used was light Gray. Not trying to start an argument here, just never saw any indication the scoop was painted while on the car. A close examination of the scoops edges that touch the fender should be the place to look for paint "runs" attached to the scoop and fender.

Being as how there are differences in Bob's Hemi Daytona and most other Daytona's, which have been through numerous owners and restorations. Bob's Daytona has had exactly three owners, the first and third owners share about equal ownership time, we the second owners had it 48 years and know where it has been all that time. It was never in a body or paint shop.

If one examines the black grill, one can see the V2 orange nose overspray on it. Same for the air dam under the nose. Bob's Hemi Daytona is as original as they get, probably more original than any other known Hemi Daytona on earth.

Again, we are not disputing what you saw, just the image as we see it posted doesn't verify without doubt that the scoop was painted on the car. Next year when we return from my 65th HS reunion, we are going to visit Bob and his Hemi Daytona.

We're also going to avoid Texas on our trip to and fro. Never liked bars on windows.

No offense intended and none taken; we're just calling it as we see and saw it

I have went back through a few thousand pics on the hard drive. I have pics of 11 different original paint daytona's.

It appears on all of them as they were painted off the car then attached, each has primer showing but in different locations. However also have pics from inside fender well on each car, and there is no body color spray on the bottom side of the grill screen on any of the cars. Also no body color over spray anywhere on the inside of the fenders.

   My Daytona has a bit of paint overspray on the outside of the inner fender next to the fender scoop hole. I think that there were no two cars alike as creative had to do six Daytonas a day over about two and 1/2 months. (Wingman)  Jay.
