Factory starter on a 383 engine

The starter on my car seems to be on it's last legs
It might have one more start in it

A couple outings ago I noticed when I stopped for lunch it groweled pretty good when I went to go
I stopped for gas and it cranked over just fine
I got home and it was groweling again

Went to go for a spin last night as it was the local cruise night and it was not happy again
I turned it off and started it a couple more times and it was getting much worse so I just left the car in the shed

Can the gear reduction part dry out and just needs some grease or does this mean the bushing in the end is worn enough that the armature is starting to drag on the case and it is done ?

Remove it and inspect it as it could just need some love.
