Hey gang..
I'm looking to get a Durango.. I just had a little baby girl and I'm split between a MegaCab or a Durango.. Has anyone pulled a full size car behind one? Anyone with pictures? My only concern is the weight transfer of the suspension compared to a QuadCab or MegaCab Ram..

Thanks,
Troy

I have a 99 Durango 5.9 pulled my 71 Charger 500 miles no problem. I have towed many boats and cars with it. I had only towed with a Jeep Cherokee before that sothis was a huge upgrade.

If you're talking about a new Durango you'll be fine. If you're talking about an older Durango with a 4.7L you'll be fine as well.

We are doing same thing. Looking at a 2003 Durango R/T 5.9 or Durango 4.7.....either way they will easily tow an unenclosed car trailer and a 4,000 lb B-Body.....if it came with the tow package.

Why 2003....I like the looks of the Durango then. They ruined the look in 2004. My opinion.

I'm planning on getting an '06 whatever.. Again, either the MegaCab or Durango.. Either way, it'll be a new one... Can't believe they don't make a R/T version in ''06......

What was the stance like? I really don't want one in which the front end is sticking straight up and looks like it's struggling.... I have the use of a trailer with a weight-distribution setup and I love it towing with my '04 QC.....

Supercharged Riot

My brother had an 06' Durango with the 350 hp Hemi for a couple days because his silverado was being repaired. That durango hauls ass without hesitation. we were having a little fun with the Hemi. it was kinda funny. smooth accelleration. I cant vouch for hauling a car behind it though

Hemi power... cool

i just dot like the way dodge m,akes all their cars look the same tho

A good friend of mine owns a 04 Hemi Durango and loves it. Tows with it frequently with no problems. Can't say much for the gas milage though.

Get the Megacab. You are trying to do truck work with an SUV.

The Durango will be fine towing with either the 4.7L or 5.7L Magnum. The Megacab will be too heavy for the 5.7L and you'll want the Cummins for that application.

The towing I'm looking to do is pretty infrequent.. I only tow with my truck, ohhhh, about 3 or 4 times a year.... But, when I do, I wanna have a good comfortable and safe vehicle.......

Thanks guys.....

In that case the Durango will be perfect for you. It's not too big and a little smaller than the MegaCab. In the Durango you'll want the 5.7L V8 as it will pull better and get slightly better gas mileage.

If you put the #'s down on paper Troy  if you load the durango up for a trip. (IE Family and all that goes with a family)  and then hook a Trailer with a Charger on it you are on the ragged edge and/or overloading the durango. Then the Durango is going to be giving its all to do the job (starting and stopping, handling) not to mention the family cargo and the particular Chargers you own.  I myself would want to be towing with a vehicle that  has extra capacity in reserve.

You might get by with a Durango as others have but there also may be one time when you dont get by and thats when it could get ugly. You dont want the tail wagging the dog!

They don't have it listed on the page. That's all that was on the main Dodge page regarding the Durango. They had the 3.7L V6 but, not the 4.7L or 5.7L ?

I was looking at the Mega cab at a dealer here close to home. WOW,,,,,,,  Then I saw the price. A few weeks ago I was looking around on Ebay and did a search on (06' Mega Cab Turbo Diesel). A dealer in NC. came up with great prices. WAY LESS than I could buy the same here for. If you are thinking about a NEW truck I would check them out. Just do the search. He had over 1200 sales on ebay.

No Problem....

I really like my Durango... it tows well. I have interior room when I need it. And it is a little better on fuel than my 04 Ram 1500 with the Hemi was. Although the Ram also was awsome for towing. I picked up a 69 Charger with 2 extra motors and one extra tranny and I towed it all the way from Columbus to Toronto and had room on the pedal to spare. I got rid of the Ram though cause it didn't have enough space for the family especially on long trips. I miss not having a bed but the Durango is easier to park and stiill tows what I need to.

No Problem....

Sydmoe: Wow, that's standing nicely. Looks like the rear suspension can handle it... The trick is vehicle placement.... Todd, I totally understand your point of view as well.......

Thanks again guys...

Hey Troy, we used our 2004 Durango to go to Montana to pick up the 500 when we bought it. Tows great. Not as nice as dually would, but its just like pulling a trailer with a 1500 truck in my opinion. I also pull my brother in laws 27' boat every other weekend with it. No problems at all pulling it. Mileage isn't really hurt either in towing, or at least not for us. We got 18 mpg going to Montana with an empty trailer, and 16.4 mpg coming back from Montana with the 500 in tow. Mileage in town isn't so good though about 14.
