Does the black cap have writing or is it blank?

Is the strap holding the cap mounted fore and aft?

Over the counter replacements were made that way due to claims of the lid blowing open when driving. The one on my Bird is backwards..been there since I've had it, some 32 years.

Thank you. I purchased one recently with the cap in that reversed position. It was advertised as NOS, so your explanation makes me feel better knowing I didn't buy an expensive repop.
