Mock Turtle being the original vinyl top on the car that is. Anyway, I got off my rear and got busy today. Recovered the front buckets black/orange 71 RR style , installed them as well as a new Carpet. Decided the big green plastic steering wheel had to go too. Tuff wheel looks kinda goofy on a column shift, but is better than it was. Hopefully, i will be able to pick up a floorshift column soon (tommorow) and go ahead install the slapstik and console.  Was very pleasantly  surprised by the lack of rust on the floorboards. There are a few holes underneath the rear seat area. Not too happy with the carpet fit, too loose around the hump, I will probably have to pull the seats and try again. Going to try to hang a set of 72 Rallye doors and tail lights on it this afternoon.

Nice to see some progress, hu?
What exterior color / interior plastics color are you going with?

TruckDriver

Tom told me orange. So, if he leaves the dash as is, it should look like the great pumkin when done :D

Looks good so far Tom!

Orange it will be. Havent thought about whether i will put a 1/2 vinyl top back on. Definitely not the Mock Turtle top that it came with. While its kind of unique.......its still ugly as sin.  The dash pad will be getting a cheapo black cap. I noticed recently that the one i put in one of my other cars about a year or a year and a half ago is kind of buckling and warping. Oh well, still looks better than cracks all over.  Just finsihed getting the power bulge hood on.  Gotta head down the road and pick up them doors from my storage unit. Wifey don`t know nuthin about those $600 doors. I hid em in my storage unit last week. :icon_smile_big:

The Ghoul

I figgured with the gold mesh rims youd be going with black, gold bird on the hood and gold pinstriping!! LOL
Should look sharp when its done man. Keep her going

twilt

Ah, those wheels will be discarded. I`ve  got a nice set of 15 inch Rallyes with new 71 centers to put on it. Doors are on. doors were off a non ac car, so they have non tinted glass. Rest of car has tinted, so i guess i will have to swap out the door glass some other time. Time to get the rear bumper and tail lights changed out.

TruckDriver

Man, you quick! Last time I tried to put a door on, I didn't happen til I had 2 other guys come over to help me. And so far so good as far as the color coordination :D

Looking much better !

Okay, rear bumper, valance, and tail lights are in.  I am bleeping exhausted.  DCG (Pete) , I am used to tearing apart cars by myself, (don`t usually have to worry about putting them back together) so I know how to improvise. Getting a hood on and off by myself  is kinda tricky... makes my neck sore too.... as i carry it on the top of my head. I`ll have to take the rear bumper back off as i am going to have to do some more
work on the rear valance and the rear corner of the pass side 1/4 panel as well as repair some of the tail light wiring.

I`ve been collecting cars and parts for a couple years now. Just got kind of frustrated that all my time is spent buying/selling and hunting parts and dont spend anytime at all working on what i do have. Today is the first time in months that i didnt go to a junkyard on my off day. It really felt good to get a little accomplished.

I`m not looking for anything close to perfection out of this thing. Just a cool driver, that is one solid color, that  I can cruise those 3 miles to work in a couple times a week.

The one thing that kind of struck me today was....... with all these cool parts now on the car...........that 318 just seems kinda wimpy.... :shruggy:

Thanks for the compliments. The encouragement makes me want to "get er done"

I`ll be  headed down to Valdosta, GA early tommorow morning for the Southern Mopar Nats.  I am hoping to find some goodies in the swap meet to help finish out the interior as well as a couple rear bumper cores.

The heck with that. push the Camaro off a cliff and get working on that Charger. As you can see, the hood you want is off the car and ready to be picked up.

Exterior will be Orange.
On the interior i will be going with black. I have a real good set of black lower panels for the front and rear.  As far as upper panels, I`ll probably dye the ones that were in the car or some others that i have. dash will get a new cap. I think i have decent used kick panels, A-pillar trim, and sail panels. I might buy new kick panels and A-pillar moldings if the repro stuff has a semi correct looking grain texture. I definitely will be buying new seatbacks.  As a very temporary measure, i used some rattle can paint on the seatbacks that is supposed to adhere to plastic. After i painted them this morning, i read on the can that the paint needs a 7 day cure time to be fully chip proof.

I just noticed that the tail light set i put on has two left lenses. Notice where the part number stampings are on the pass side. they are on the bottom instead of up top where they are supposed to be. The previous owner of the tail lights did powder coat the bezels which is kinda cool. :2thumbs:

Ah, those wheels will be discarded.
If you are going to trash the wheels I will take them off your hands. I could use a set for a "roller" sitting in my yard.

I wouldnt say that i made the cut-outs. The cutouts from a very battered original 71-72 valance were cut out and grafted into a straighter standard valance i had.
