Side Marker Light

1968 Dodge Charger
Front Side Marker Lights.
Having difficulty separating Bulb Socket from Housing.
It rotates easily.
I can force a utility knife partially in the joint, but no go.
I drove a screw driver in but I only managed to bend the flange on the socket.
I loosely clamped the cylindrical portion of the socket in a vice and tried to pull and bend the housing off , but no luck.

Is there something I am not aware of?

I'm about to try and take my front markers out of the fender to replace the bulb.  They are completely covered in under coating. First attempt was really discourage.  You have any suggestions?
