OK, right off the back,. Im not gonna BS anyone,I dont know much about these older engines. Im JUST barely getting introduced to Mopars, Im more into the newer 90's turbocharged imports.

Recently my father and I have been talking about fixing up the charger,.. Its a 69 #'s match R/T,.. so from what I have read it has one of the better 440's (if im typing stuff thats incorrect please correct me)
About the only thing im sure of so far is going with a stroker kit from 440source,.. I have read alot of good things about their kits what would be the ideal combo for mostly cruiser, and several visits to the track,..
Lets say I went with a 500/512/528 which heads would be the best to compliment the stroker kit (or are there only certain typres of heads that are compatible) Ive read the the TTI headers are the best with the least fitment issues,.. full 3" with some 40 series mufflers to take care of the exhaust.
So now what about the valve train, cam, intake.
Id like to keep the engine "looking" as stock as possible so Im not sure how id pull off an INDY package,.. (can I?) Also what rebuild kit should I go with for my tranny to beef it up to withstand all this power,..

Thanks in advance,.. I know these are alot of rookie question, and I have searched Im just looking to fill in the holes that I cant fill in on my own...
Thanks

Welcome to the site. One of our members just built a 493 stroker and there is lots of detailed info in the threads i'll link to below. Read through them and you'll have a good grasp of what's involved. Steve is very pleased with the performance of this motor and it is quite streetable on pump gas. This is a 550hp/600tq street/strip combo, btw.

First thing is to figure out what your budget is and then figure out how much maintenance you're willing to perform.  A 440 block with a 4.250 crank would give you something around a 505 depending on final bore size.  That makes a great street engine with some Edelbrock heads, a Edelbrock Perf RPM manifold and a 950 Holley HP carb.  Set it up with 10:1 compression and don't go too wild with the cam.  It will be a great engine for you.  Figure on $5000 or so to build it if you stick with a hyd cam, stock type rocker arms, stock oiling system, etc.

I still like rod ratio over ci for best durability & power for sreet engines so I would be looking at around 500 " with longer 7.1" rods
