Question about brake drums

So here it is... I have a 70 coronet. Drum brakes all around. 10 in.. Is there any difference between the front and rear drums. They look the same.. But.. Am i missing something?? thanks r

They are different, the hole in the center is smaller on the front

Really?? ok I will have to get my calipers and measure that. You probably cant tell by your eye alone. Thanks for the tip.

From the Bendix catalog:

Front pilot hole diameter = 2.813"

Rear pilot hole diameter= 2.836"

The fronts don't have the hub as part of the drum like the A body cars do ?

The fronts are staked around the studs. You can separate them with a little work. But wow no wonder i couldnt tell the difference with my eye. Thats only a couple thousands. Thats really good to know for future reference. thanks r

Years ago some suppliers offered a drum with the large pilot hole that was claimed would fit both front/rear; the trick was to swedge the front studs on the oversized drum, which lead to an out-of-round condition, then turn the drum to make it round.
