Need help open door

On my 73, I removed the door handle and outside handle and now I cannot open the door. The is unlocked, but when I reach in to move the release linkage, the door won't open. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

I got a similar problem once loooooong time ago where one lever of the driver side door latch system got broken inside. Fortunatelly it was the exterior door handle lever so I could open from inside, removed the latch from door and weld the broken lever.

Actually I can't recall if it was the lock lever or the handle lever. I know the inner handle could still open the door, but being the driver side door, still with lock in place the door can be opened from inside ( safety system on 3rd gens )

I guess your door was workin perfect before remove the handles?

To open from outside the rod must be pushed, not pulled ( just in case )
