While waiting for my engine to come back from the builder, I decided to work on the trunk.  When I received the car, I got a box of parts which included the original scissor jack, handle, brackets, original bumper jack and assorted hardware.  I glass beaded the metal parts and applied PPG 50% semi-gloss black on the black parts and rustolium dove gray on the jack hook, base and mechanism.  The jack shaft was painted with Motor City's  Silver-Zinc Cadmium iridescent spray paint.  ECS provided the decals.  NOS parts included a trunk mat and hold down wing nuts.  The scissor jack screw and bearing were polished with OOO steel wool.  Mostly all of the tips regarding the restoration of these parts I learned from the various posts here on the forum.  Way to many folks to thank, but thank you all the same!

Looks good! I spotted  a couple things in my opinion are needing attention. The scissors jack should not be centered with the hold down plate. It should be offset to the rear a little so the threaded rod doesn't hit the wing support. There should be paint overspray on the side marker brackets. I'm sure you know there should be plastic covers on the back of the tail lights. Otherwise great job! WINGNUT

Wingnut - Are you sure about the jack position?  The jack base has three tabs for lack of a better word, and the hold down plate has three notches that align perfectly with the tabs. The whole thing fits pretty snug. I tried to capture the tabs in the attached picture.  Additionally, the jack bolt is close but does not touch the wing bracket.   I agree with the side marker brackets.  But they look soooo good having been restored.  It would be a shame to cover them with paint but I might in the future.  Original covers have since been installed.

Sweet  :2thumbs:

Your car is all original and untouched, correct?  Your jack is in about the same position.  I've read that the threaded stud wasn't always welded in the same place.  That might have something to do with positioning the jack.

So, 62MAX, you had to back the screw out so your jack will fit even with the plate. My 'Bird is the same, so I moved the jack back a little. WINGNUT

No,the screw is 5/8" from plate, stud on floor is in original location, never moved. The screw distance from the plate doesn't change whether the Jack is up or down.

And note his marker retainer isn't painted either, no reason it should be since it wasn't installed when the car was painted.

I've read elsewhere on this board that the marker light and plate were in place when the trunk was painted.  So maybe I'll just leave it be.
