So there are holes for one 5 x 7 on drivers side and one 6 x 9 on passenger side? Seems like there is a lot of weird sh!t on these cars. :Twocents:

I guess there's some kind of adapter available, but damn dudes. :brickwall:

Gold Rush

My adapter was a nice compact pneumatic jig saw and a bit of patience.  I mounted the 6X9 ovals direct to the support then the covers to the removable package shelf. Worked well and sounds GREAT!!

Nope
One side is for a speaker and the other side is where the blower mounts for a rear window defroster if you had one

But you could get dual speakers on rear ( was an option on stereo setup without blower deffog )and still will be two sizes.

My theory is because front speaker was conected to left channel side, along with the left rear, and the right size got a bigger one to compensate the sound pressure lever and frequency range response due the larger cone.

On sound, two speaker of the same size will emulate the frequency response like it was one speaker 1.4 times larger ( i.e. Two 10" speakers together will be able to reproduce the same than 1 14" speaker on frequency range )

Being single rear speaker, front is left and rear is right even being on left side. Being mono, you would get a rear fader knob control on map light insert.

Well I work in a recording studio so I WANT MATCHING SPEAKERS! lol.

Gold Rush

I installed replacement stereo dash speaker and a set of premium 6 X 9 ovals in the rear deck.  As previously posted it did take a little cutting to get the second rear in place but once in they look and sound Great!

Here is where I bought my speakers..   https://www.retromanufacturing.com/

On my 70 I bought hunks of sheet aluminum and mounted two 6 1/2" Infinity speakers matched to my Supertuner in the factory holes. With all the metal covered in sound mat and then matching carpet the surface mount speakers/covers don't look factory but work so well I don't need an amp. (The carpet helps back there.)
