Just a quick question about changing the rear main seal in my car.  I'm changing it on a 440 and need to know if I need to pull the motor out to get to it.  I have to change the clutch on the car also so something has to come out.  I was thinking it would be easier to just pull the transmission but I don't know if I can get to the seal this way.  I've asked others and have got mixed answers.
No, it ain't a Hemi.....thank God!

you need to pull the oil pan & the seal cap & you have to push the upper 1/2 of the seal around the crank to replace it the engine & tranny can stay in place

Pull the pan.   Then remove number 5 main cap.  If this is a rebuilt application,  you should be able to spin the top rubber seal out.   In my opinion...those rope style seals suck and are a pain in the ass, if that's what you have.   I went with the rubber style on mine.   Dont be afraid to use some silicone on the mating ends either!!!

offset the mating ends a few degrees from the seal plate parting surface

I have had more problems with rubber seals than rope kind
