Small Block Vacuum Line Routing

Hi All:

After pulling the intake forever-ago, I've reassembled almost everything.  One exception is the small diameter vacuum line that comes from through the firewall and appears to go to the vacuum port on the rear of the intake.  Questions: (1) is this the correct routing?, (2) what purpose do this line serve?, and (3) how to replace given it's original and very hard?

What year is the car?  On my 70 the line goes to a vacuum canister under the battery and than into the firewall/dash for the A/C and heat.

Thanks.  Routed headlight line to vacuum port on intake.  Gently heated hose with my Zippo.  Good to go.
