I have a 2002' Olds. Intrigue, (Final 500 car #261). It needs an evaporator. I cannot find  a book on it. All-Data is useless on this one. I have about 50 pages of useless info from them. I have most of the dash apart and have hit a road block. What a nightmare!! I need help quick....

Does your book tell you how to remove the heater core?
The last two heater cores I've done, I had to remove the dash from the firewall (what a PITA!) and the evaporator was contained in the heater box.

Oh & no I'm not a GM mechanic. :icon_smile_tongue:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Damn, I can't even find anyone that stayed at a Holiday Inn last night!! ;D

The book says to remove the HVAC box.   DUH, THANX!!! What I need is info on how to get the son of a bundle of joy out....  I have done my share of heater cores and even a few evaps. I have never seen a nightmare like this in my life...  :brickwall:  I spoke with a few people at a dealership today and may have an answer or two. He wasn't even sure..  The service writer said they have to bribe the mechanics to take these jobs. Nobody wants to do them.. The book gives 10.8 hours with a console. Over $1000.00...  This car has 21,600 miles on it. and the evap has been dead since last fall just a month after warrentee.

I should have filled it with A/C fix a flat and traded it in.........

I would buy a KIA before I buy another GM. >:(

I think some of these cars GM also they make it a pain to work on so you will buy brand new. Its like they go out of their way to make it hard to fix. These new cars are ok till they break then its like you said a real pain. Do not forget about those air bags if you decide just to start yanking it out.

Woah! :o That's for sure! You don't wanna end up with a nice new shiner. :icon_smile_blackeye:

My buddy Ray just did this same job a week ago in a 99' Durango. I helped him with removing the dash and replacing it. He thought it was kind of a pain in the ass compared to most of the evaps he has done in the past. Now he says the Durango was Cherry pie compared to this pile of shiet!! Now I know why they have to bribe the mechanics with a paid day off...  Of course I think it would have been a much easier job with a manual rather than flying by the seat of our pants. You cannot believe how over engineered this piece of crap is >:(  And every step is Hamburger Hill.   Did I mention how many screws we found loose in and under this dash?

GM should be ashamed.....  And this is a FINAL 500 CAR. # 261 Olds. Intrigue.  :puke:
