So what will this mean for the American brands?

Probably nothing....not much changed when FIAT took over or when Daimler bought Jeep and then sold to FIAT.

After seeing what happened with Nissan's quality after the Renault merger in 2003, my guess is:

 those french / Italian makes  peugeot citroen  renault fiat  have always been the makes to avoid  imo  & unless your buying brand new & keeping it for only a year or two do not buy one !  avoid !, is what I tell every one who asks     poorly made /  crap electrics etc

Dodge is an Italian make....has been for a few years now!! LOL

Smaller, fuel efficient cars through badge engineering. FCA - esp Chrysler and Dodge - have NOTHING to offer as far as that market goes. Same goes w/ hybrids and electrics.
